Hello.
My name is Jared Hall and I am a junior at Lamar High School. I didn't
know Jerry, but I am very sorry to hear about him. I just wanted
to let you know that me and my friends are and will continue praying for
you and all of the other families that have suffered losses in this tragedy.
Once again I am terribly sorry to hear about this.
The memories I have of
Jerry were not a lot but left a lasting impression on my heart. When I
first heard what had happened the only thing that popped into my head was
Disciple Now at Sky Ranch. He was a great guy with a wonderful heart for
the Lord. I, as well as many others, will miss him greatly. He was a very
uplifting and encouraging person and
never said anything
bad about anyone. Although we weren't best friends and didn't go out
and do things every
weekend he still left a lasting impression on me and will always be remembered.
WE WILL MISS YOU!
The skies here in Aggieland
may be bright but everyones hearts are dark. I walked around Bonfire
site today and thought about Jerry and the other 11 who have lost their
lives. As I walked to class yesterday I passed the spot where I use
to see Jerry and it made me smile to know that Jerry is in heaven right
now with our Heavenly Father. Now he is up there lighting up the
world with his bright smile. Jerry is going to be missed very much
and his memory will live forever here in Aggieland and in all of our hearts.
A freshman at Baylor
wrote this song 2 years ago when one of his good friends went to be with
Jesus, and I think that this is what Jerry would say to all of us...
Bed of roses, good
book closes
Look now your friends
are all here
Church bells ringing,
angels singing
Many questions, its
just not clear to me
In the silence I
hear your voice
Softly calling out
my name
You say, "I am here
now and I miss you
But there's a purpose
to what became of me
~If you could see
me now, and know that I'm ok
Well I first
saw Jesus today
My Father
is holding on to me
Its Paradise,
wish that you could see me now"~
Many hours all alone
here
Dreaming of your
smiling face
All the memories,
hopes and glories
Of all the plans
that we made
Yes we miss you and
we're alone here
Left to dream of
the glorious place
Where you are now
with our God now
Forever looking upon
His perfect face
~If we could see
you now and know that you're ok
You first
saw Jesus today
That our Father
is holding onto you
You're in
Paradise, I wish that we could see you now~
Habukkuk 3:17-18
To God be all glory!
Jerry, you have made
a lasting impression on so many other people's lives. You have gone
to a wonderful place. We are proud of your accomplishments and being
a cadet at Texas A&M. You will be missed.
Our thoughts and
prayers are with all of the families.
Although I didn't have
the pleasure in knowing Jerry, I knew he was a great guy. It takes
a lot for a teacher to say only good things about you, but Jerry, that's
all they could say. From the first day I had Mrs. Davis, until last
Thursday, see only spoke good things of you. As she started to cry
on Friday, she said "Jerry was the most loving student I had." He
really left his mark. He was truly a great person. I was so
glad to hear of his dedication to his school, it's so sad he had to go
that way. As a future
Aggie, my heart breaks.
The Vikings are going to miss you, but now you are one of God's Vikings
and Ags. My heart goes out to the family and friends of Jerry, I
hear they lost a great man. My prayers go out to the family.
Thank you Jerry for being the man you were and thank you Jerry for being
the true Aggie.
I did not know you, but
I am a part of the Aggie Family. My daughter and her husband are
former students, my son is at Aggieland, and I am a doctorial student at
Texas A&M. All Aggies are part of our family. I know that all
of your high school classmates, relatives and friends will miss you.
May they remember the good times, and find peace in the fact that you are
now in a better place.
I knew Jerry earlier
in his brief life, and I always remember him with happy memories.
I feel such sorrow for his family with the great loss which they are going
through. Jerry you will be missed, but not forgotten.
I did not have the privilege
of knowing Jerry or any of the others who lost their lives in the accident,
however I do have many friends and family in College Station attending
A&M and do have one good friend who was injured in the accident. He
also was in the Corps of Cadets.
I want you to know
that my prayers are with all of the families and friends of each and every
victim. I know there are no words to ease anyone's pain, all we can do
is pray and pray for a new day and keep everyone in our memory. Memories
never die. Just keep praying.
I am the mother of a
20 yr old son named Josh. I met Jerry when he was dating one of my
son's classmates from L.D. Bell. Jerry had a smile that would light
up the room. He became a very special part of my boys from Bell.
They spent
time together at the end of their Senior year going to parties, Prom and
Project Graduation. Jerry fit in like he had always been a Bell Blue
Raider even though he was tremendously proud of being a Lamar Viking. He
and the others talked incessantly of their dreams of becoming Aggies
and when that day came there was none more proud than Jerry. As a
parent I can not imagine the pain of losing such a precious gift.
I have
seen the pain and
saddness his passing has brought to my son and his friends.
They not only lost
a friend who was an Aggie but one who was a brother in Christ and
shared time in worship
and fellowship with them. Mr. and Mrs. Self, I can only say that
your son was a true gift from God and touched many lives that you will
probably never know, but know that in my short time of knowing him
no finer young man have I met than Jerry Don Self. My son and his
friends have been greatly blessed by their friendship with Jerry.
