Varsity vs. Keller Central- 7:30 PM, Cravens Field
The Series: Lamar and Keller Central have played every year since 2012. The Vikings are 2-2 versus the Chargers, with the teams splitting the two previous meetings at Cravens Field.
Last Week: Lamar rebounded from an opening night loss with a 37-7 win over South Grand Prairie, while Keller Central lost to Richland, 28-17. The Chargers opened the season with a 43-17 loss to Birdville.
Late Start: This will be the first game at Cravens Field this season. Lamar opened the season with two road games, while Martin has played one game at Maverick Stadium and one on the road.
Lamar Leaders: QB Chance Fuller has thrown for 555 yards and six touchdowns over the first two games. The senior is on pace to break Shane Buechele’s school record of 2498 yards and 29 touchdowns from last season.
Spreading it Out: Fuller has completed 27 passes to eight different receivers. Senior Devon Wright leads the way with four receptions and 109 yards. Eight different Vikings have found the end zone over two games, and none have scored more than once.
Defensive Stoppers: The Vikings defense ranks second among District 4-6A teams in scoring defense, third in rushing defense, and third in total defense. The Vikings are anchored on defense by LB Kyron Johnson, DB Kolby Underwood, and DEs Cade Gober & Bobby Brown.
Scouting the Chargers: Keller Central is led on offense by QB Reese Robertson who has completed 26 passes for 293 and two TDs in two games this season. The Chargers are averaging 17 points per game versus 35.5 points allowed. Defensive players to watch include safety Josh Cilumba and linebacker Matt Girard.
Friday Night Tailgate: The Lamar cheerleaders are hosting Friday night’s tailgate before the football game. Blue Mesa Grills is catering the tailgate, providing sweet potato chips, hot dogs, cheese quesadillas, potato salad, and much more! Tickets are $8, food will be served from 5:00-7:00 PM on the Lamar east plaza.
